Access Restored

A Deck Built for Dignity and Daily Joy

Location: Millet, AB
Project Type: Custom Accessibility Deck Build
Scope: Wheelchair-Accessible Deck Design & Build, Foundation Engineering for Wet Terrain, Outdoor Mobility Enhancement

The Challenge

These homeowners were seeking a way to reclaim their outdoor space after mobility challenges, particularly those caused by the wife’s progressing multiple sclerosis, had made it nearly impossible to enjoy their own backyard.

They needed a deck that was not only beautiful and functional but also wheelchair accessible and safe. Adding to the complexity, the home was situated in a wet, marshy environment, presenting structural challenges that required special attention to drainage, support, and long-term durability.

The Solution

The goal was simple but deeply meaningful: create a safe, stable, and accessible outdoor space that allowed the couple to reconnect and reclaim comfort and ease in their daily lives. This wasn’t just a deck—it was a lifeline to normalcy, dignity, and enjoyment.

We began by addressing the unique terrain. Specialized foundation work ensured the deck would be secure and weather-resistant, even in wet conditions. From there, we designed and constructed a spacious, wheelchair-friendly layout complete with smooth transitions, non-slip surfaces, and thoughtful railings for added security. Every element was crafted with accessibility, comfort, and resilience in mind.

The Result

The finished deck is more than a structure—it’s a transformational space. The homeowners now have a beautiful, functional extension of their home that accommodates their needs and enriches their quality of life. What once felt like a limitation is now an open invitation to enjoy the outdoors again—safely, comfortably, and with renewed joy.
