What Is the 2:1 tREeCYCLE Program?
The 2:1 tREeCYCLE program is Atmos Tree’s solution to one of arboriculture’s biggest challenges: how to offset the ecological impact of necessary tree removals. Through this alliance, arborists like us commit to planting two trees for every removal job we complete. These trees are planted off-site at no additional cost to clients, ensuring that our work contributes to a net-positive environmental impact..
Why It Matters
Trees are vital to healthy ecosystems. They sequester carbon, prevent soil erosion, regulate water cycles, and provide habitat for countless species. By participating in the 2:1 tREeCYCLE program, we’re not just replacing what’s lost—we’re actively restoring and strengthening natural systems for the long term.
Local Impact, Global Vision
In Spring 2024, Atmos Tree alliance members funded the planting of 1,500 native trees in Entwistle, Alberta—an area affected by wildfires. Species like Trembling Aspen, Black Spruce, and Saskatoon were chosen to bring biodiversity and resilience back to the land.
Beyond Alberta, Atmos Tree supports planting projects both locally and internationally, focusing on areas where trees can make the greatest difference. This includes developing regions where reforestation also supports community development and economic sustainability.

As our client, your tree removal service now includes a small “tREeCYCLE” fee that funds the planting of two new trees. This initiative makes every project an act of restoration—and offers you a meaningful way to be part of something bigger.
Meet the Owner: Lance Taylor
Obsidian Birch Industries was founded in 2022 by Lance Taylor, a Journeyman Red-Seal Carpenter with over 13 years of experience in commercial construction. Lance worked with leading firms such as Chandos, PCL, and Ledcor, and built a strong foundation in both structural framing and finish work.
When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the industry in 2020, Lance used the opportunity to explore new avenues—from kitchen design to motorcycle sales—before rediscovering his love for hands-on craftsmanship. This passion ultimately sparked his journey into entrepreneurship.
Today, Lance leads Obsidian Birch as a multifaceted contracting and arboriculture business, offering tree removal, trimming, and pruning services alongside custom interior and exterior residential projects in Edmonton and surrounding areas. Through every job, Lance brings a deep respect for both structure and nature—and a commitment to building sustainably.
